HallStar® IBST, Isobutyl Stearate is a viscous pale yellow waxy solid or viscous liquid at >24°C. It is insoluble in water, freely soluble in alcohol and isopropyl alcohol. The ingredient is produced by reaction when combining Isobutyl alcohol and stearic acid. Isobutyl Stearate is used as an emollient, lubricant and fragrance solubilizer. It’s viscosity and oily nature help in the formation of a non-greasy hydrophobic film when applied to lips, or skin. It also acts as a skin conditioning agent providing a soft and smoothing appearance. It is commonly used in the formulation of eye makeup, lipstick and skin care and bath products. Typical use levels are 2% to 5% in most products.
