Hallstar’s commitment to sustainability is one of the most important priorities in the sourcing of natural products. Shea nuts needed for Biochemica® Craft Shea Butter are collected by local women of Ghana. Over 600,000 women rely on the commercial business to support their families and put food on the table.
How is Biochemica® Craft Shea Butter produced? Shea fruit is gathered and boiled, after which the fruit is husked and sun-dried. The sun-dried kernels are crushed, dry-roasted and then milled into powder which is then kneaded in a water slurry until light in color. Cool water is introduced into the aerated slurry to initiate phase separation. Crude shea butter is skimmed off the surface and then boiled to remove any remaining water. After boiling, the crude shea butter is filtered. Biochemica® Craft Shea Butter is typically refined before packaging for use in the cosmetics marketplace.
Shea butter is well known to assist with the resolution of cutaneous dryness, dermatitis, dermatoses, eczema, solar erythema and superficial burns, and Biochemica® Craft Shea Butter has a smooth creamy texture that is suitable for cosmetics. Its recommended use level is application dependent: balms: 5-100%, bar soaps: 3-6%, lotions and creams: 3-5%, hair conditioners: 2-5%.
