HallStar® PG10-S, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate is a natural polyglyceryl ester made through the esterification reaction between a polymer of glycerin and stearic acid. The hydrophilic decaglycerol portion is produced through a chlorine free, high heat distillation process. This results in an oligomeric, or crosslinked hyperbranched decaglycerol molecule which is then esterified with stearic acid. HallStar® PG10-S is an off-white solid with a mild odor, is produced using 100% plant based raw materials and uses RSPO Mass Balance Palm.
Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate is an oil-in-water, O/W, emulsifier, solubilizer, skin conditioning agent and non-ionic surfactant with an effective HLB of 12/13. It is PEG, PPG, 1-4 Dioxane free and Chlorine free, non-irritating to skin and shows no sensitizing effects when used in beauty products. HallStar® PG10-S can also be used as a co-emulsifier in W/O systems and has some detergency and solubilizing properties. Due to it’s ability to create small droplets, it functions well as a foam stabilizer and thickener in spray products. Hallstar® PG10-S is easily dispersible in water and is strongly hydroscopic. When used in water containing formulas it will create a cyclopolymerized structure, which is associated with hydrogen bonds and locks water in a cage. It has excellent moisturizing properties, is long-lasting and highly stable. In anhydrous systems, it can be used as a structuring agent with emollient propertied due to the decaglycerol and stearate ends. Typical use levels are 1.0% to 5.0% in formulation. It is used in the oil phase with a melting point of about 55°C.
