Biochemica® Shea Butter Natural is a natural butter expeller pressed from the fruit seeds of the karite tree grown on the African continent. From these seeds a yellow butter is obtained which must be further processed and refined for use on the skin, creating a smooth, creamy texture which is suitable for cosmetics. Due to its high content of unsaponifiables (up to 17%), unrefined shea butter has an inherent SPF of 4. This is where shea butter draws its traditional properties: protection of the skin against weather, sun and photo-aging and elimination of superficial irritations. Shea butter is well known to address cutaneous dryness, dermatitis, dermatoses, eczema, solar erythema and burns. The toxicity of shea butter is such that it is used in Europe in foods and confections to replace fats to enhance food texture and flavor. Suggested applications for Biochemica® Shea Butter Natural: creams, lotions, balms. Use from 3% to 100% pure (as a balm).
